Firefighters Receive BLM Grant Funded Training
The over the next several months Firefighters from Trinity County Volunteer Fire Departments will be attending additional training on dealing with the complexities of Wildland Firefighting. These classes have been funded through grant from the Bureau of Land Management which provides these classes at no cost to our local firefighters.
The classes will be providing instruction in Wildland Fire Behavior, Incident Command, working as an Engine Boss and the process of protecting structures during a wildland fire. The courses are taught through FireCourse.com who provides the instructors and all teaching materials. The instructors are all experts in the field they teach and provide valuable insight to the students. Providing quality instruction to our Volunteer Firefighter is so important to help them battle wildfires during our local fire season.
This past weekend 23 students from Down River Fire, Douglas City Fire, Hayfork Fire, Lewiston Fire and Weaverville Fire attended a sixteen hour S-200 Incident Commander class. Pictured above are students doing a practical exercise simulating Incident Command of a fire on the “sand table”. This simulation allows the students to practice the skills needed to manage an incident under a controlled situation.
“ This training, that is in addition to weekly training, will allow our Firefighter to provide better service to those communities they protect” according to Interim Fire Chief Scott Alvord. “Students had a great time and learned a lot during this class, I am very proud that these folks took time out of their busy lives to attend this training.”
